mrsfawlty I've got to say that I don't even have enough faith left to believe that they wouldn't win the next election. People have had long enough to see what damage they've done every time they get into power and they STILL vote for them.

People have had long enough to see what damage they've done every time they get into power and they STILL vote for them. Don't lose faith, kittylady , the tories are in the same position now that they were in before the 1997 election. I do feel the same way as you regarding the fact that people still vote them in, no matter what damage they do! However, I feel the same way as I did in 1997 before Blair got in and I'm desperately waiting for another 'Portillo' moment- that gave me great comfort! Starmer needs to really up his game and go for Truss's throat because our lives depend on it- especially on her 'trickle down economics' which has never worked-ever, not in my lifetime! She is, apparently, going to the USA to sell the 'trickle down' BS at the UN!!!!! We really are a laughingstock! We are a service 'industry'- i.e. banking, entertainment, legal, advertising etc. but growth in these areas is historically very limited. It's shocking to think that we used to compete, very successfully with other countries inc. Germany and Japan, e.g. look at the automotive sector(with great supply lines too!) but now we have bugger all to sell! I remember reading something that Bill Bryson said several years ago. He commented, in the book 'Road To Little Dribbling:More Notes from a Small Island', that he'd gone back to the USA some years previously and on return to the UK he discovered that we had turned into a 'giant coffee shop'! I apologise for the lengthy rant- I did, in fact, shorten it from an even longer rant! xx |

So today I found out that Truss co-authored a book called Britania Unchained which set out a right-wing vision of how to (allegedly) boost the UK. Her co-authors were: Kwasi Kwarteng, Priti Patel, Dominic Raab and Chris Skidmore. Britania Unchained - WikipediaWe're all fucked. |

She said she could not deliver the mandate on which she was elected as Tory leader and had notified the King that she was resigning. There will be Conservative leadership election to be completed within the next week, she says "I will remain as Prime Minister until a successor has been chosen," she said. It comes after she met the chairman of the 1922 Committee of backbench MPs as more Tories called for her to quit. Truss's premiership came under renewed pressure after the home secretary resigned and a chaotic vote on fracking. And what really rubs salt in the wound is that this incompetent cunt will still be entitled to claim up to £115,000 a year from the Public Duty Costs Allowance that is available to all former PM's. Guess who that was brought in for? Fucking Thatcher. Six weeks in office! I wish the UK could bounce the Tories out of power altogether. So do most of us but they are probably going to fight against going to an election for all they are worth because there's still dirty money to be made and they haven't quite reduced the country to rubble yet so they can spend the next decade screaming that any other party in power has destroyed the country rather than admitting that they trashed it themselves and left a giant shit on the carpet as a leaving present. This is and always has been the Conservative way. And if things couldn't get any worse there's now a lot of speculation that Johnson will be using this as a way to make a comeback to No.10. It makes you wonder if Truss getting the job was all a part of some party scheme to achieve this - "Yeah, let's shove Liz in there! She's bloody useless so a few months of her and you'll look like a Godsend, Boris me old chum. They'll be fizzing at the fanny* to put you back in charge, all forgiven, all forgotten. More champers old boy?" *fanny in the British sense, not the American lol. |

Also I got my gas bill this week.
My gas unit charges have gone from 6p per unit to 45p per unit.
Yes FOURTYFIVE p per unit
SEVEN times more expensive.
I also got my pay "rise" and it's not enough to pay for the rise in heating costs alone.
Not including any other price rises Inc my electric bill.
At this rate it's going to be cheaper to pay £1.80/litre* & drive into the office than heat my home.
Quick & Dirty calculation - $7.63/ US Gallon
