My neighbor is a first time dog owner, Maltese, puppy is an 8 months old cutie.
Any suggestions for best food for those dogs? I don’t know what she feeds him but it’s hard to google it and get a good answer. I’m all about organic.
I’m asking because she’s a lovely and caring person but very undisciplined with sleep habits, people food, training etc. She was leaning on me a lot when he first came home because I have had dogs and love dogs.
I want the information just in case I want to suggest it. I don’t even like what she tells me about her vet. I’m from the school of bad dog, bad owner. I taught her how to put him to bed the first week he came home
When he sees me he goes into submissive posture because he knows I care for him and he respects me. I’m mostly used to dogs over 100 lbs. he’s such a mushy cutie but everyone needs rules. Any small dog advice I’ll take it ! thanks

can you go to your local pet store and ask what dog food they rec?
we have only had mid-size dogs. we feed our current dog Call of the Wild. prior dog ate nature balance. i know a lot of people like canidae.
8 months old is still young enough to establish good habits. hope your neighbor figures it out.

I have 2 Maltese dogs! Blue Buffalo is my 1st choice Hill’s Science Diet 2nd choice
Unfortunately one of my dogs is on prescription dog food that is neither of these, but these are both excellent.
I would not ask someone at a pet store. I’d ask a vet.

Thank you everybody! Holly, I'll mention your foods to her. Thank you. They are awfully cute little things. So spunky and smart. She's letting this little thing rule her as if that's a good choice. Gotta get that mini bark under control too. I've seen so many videos, it's easy with practice. A lot of people just aren't disciplined themselves.

Holly - I feel badly for this little Maltese because her non-training hence spoiling is doing this doggie wrong. I came home and put my key in the apartment door, she was taking out the trash and he followed, no problem. I give him pets and hugs and put him down. Sometimes when he's bored he'll do that splat lay down in one movement which is so cute. I happen to look down and he's peeing on her sneaker. I didn't know male puppies lifted their leg so young. She didn't even notice it until I said Uh... She said we weren't paying attention to him. That's spoiled isn't it?

Her dog isn’t peeing on her shoe because she wasn’t paying him attention at the moment. He’s peeing on her shoes because she’s not training him! And if she doesn’t get control of the situation, he’s going to start marking all over the house & will continue even after he gets neutered (assuming she gets it done).
