But if Jamaica removes the Queen, the Commonwealth Games are going to be even more farcical than they already are. At least we had the likes of Usain Bolt to make it seem like it was a real competition, now it'll be little better than a school sports carnival. Other countries will snap their top athletes up in a heart beat

Embarrassing but I take issue with
“ He said: “Jamaica is very free and liberal and the people are very expressive, and I’m certain you will have seen the spectrum of expressions yesterday.””
And I reply to him with
“ Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Jamaica face legal and social issues not experienced by non-LGBT people. Sexual intercourse is legally punishable by imprisonment, torture, vigilante executions, and vigilante beatings.”

I don't know how to insert a video from Twitter, but the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, welcomed them, hoped they had a wonderful first time visit, but flat out said Jamaica was moving on to becoming a republic. Of course, it was very awkward, but what struck me was watching William's face get red as he stood there listening to the PM of the country basically say, "Hey, have a great trip, but you aren't ever going to be my king, so don't let the screen door hit you on your way out."
It felt a little like that scene in Love Actually when the British Prime Minister metaphorically smacked the US President upside his head right out there in front of the press. That scene made me want to cheer, and that was even before Trump. Anyway, as I watched the Jamaican PM very politely hand the Petulant Prince his ass on a platter, I realized what a shock it must be to Will's system. Who has ever dared to speak to him like this in his entire life? Eton doesn't count - that's a whole other layer of upper crust mental gymnastics. The Queen? His father? His brother? Oh - I'd suddenly love to know how many times Megs actively side-eyed him. She doesn't strike me as someone who keeps her feelings to herself, either. No wonder he hates her.
Why yes, thank you, I am enjoying myself.

Dammit, you're spoiling my mood, Nov. eta: No, it's important to see the whole picture.

i mean, i can't help but think at least some of the animosity toward them is because of how they treated meghan markle. a lot of the comments to the video constance posted reference MM and her treatment at the hands of the royals, even though meghan's not from the caribbean but they just saw the first biracial woman who married into that family leave the country and the family less than two years later. and they're supposed to want these people as their future king and queen?
and for the record, i don't think the minister was snubbing her, i think the video just captured a moment where something was about to begin and they had to pay attention. there's no way a minister would act like that publicly, it would be a huge breach of protocol.

I think them letting these two get away was the single dumbest move ever. And this is just the beginning.
Will must have really been an asshole about her. I mean, we all know he has to be the one who asked the skin color question. I think it really hurt and disappointed Harry.

^ I don't think Harry and Meghan ever had any intention of staying with the royals, no matter what. I think Harry had wanted out for a long time and she was his chance.

Of course it's Megan's fault. They would never have complained about the horror of slavery or colonization were it not for her. The fact that their ancestors were ripped from their homes and sold into slavery was justified. The fact that they were then brutalized and beaten never bothered them before. Taking my children and selling them, who really cared? What a bunch of tone deaf,, out of touch racist idiots

The Duke of Cambridge has spoken of his "profound sorrow" over slavery during a speech at a dinner in Jamaica. Prince William said slavery was abhorrent, "should never have happened" and "forever stains our history". Earlier, the island's prime minister, Andrew Holness, told the future king his country planned to pursue its goals as an independent country. On the fifth day of their Caribbean tour the duke and duchess also visited a hospital and school. Speaking at a dinner hosted by the Governor General of Jamaica, Prince William praised the spirit of the island that "makes it so special" as well as addressing the UK's role in slavery. "While the pain runs deep, Jamaica continues to forge its future with determination, courage and fortitude," he said. The prince added the Queen had a deep affection for the country and said he had been touched to hear from Jamaicans about their affection for his grandmother in her Platinum Jubilee year. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60856763.amp

"Sorrow" is not "sorry" which, to be fair, William was constrained from saying as it would have amounted to an admission of guilt. They, the Royal Family, are guilty of course and have made much of their billions from the blood, sweat, tears, torture, and death of colonization and slavery, but an overt expression of guilt would have been the basis for a call for reparations. We can't have that - little Pouter Prince in training George might not be able to afford those fancy schools if you took away some of his $3 Billion estimated worth.Look, the US and its citizens really have no business pointing fingers anywhere but at ourselves, although, obviously I'm going to do it anyway. Personally, it's been a long-drawn-out journey for me to get to where I am today, which is firmly believing that we in the US must pay reparations to all descendants of slaves, and that even that will not satisfy the debt we owe. Ethically and morally, I really believe it is imperative, but like I said, it took me a long time to get there, so I'm not exactly speaking from any high moral ground.
