Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall are reportedly divorcing, after six years of marriage. The model and self-described “billionaire tyrant” wed in March 2016, when he was 85 and Hall was 59. It was what the Washington Post called Murdoch’s “fourth, and shortest, marriage.” It was Hall’s first, although she did have a longterm partnership and several children with Mick Jagger. While together, the pair even had a couple name: RupHall

It was Murdoch’s third marriage to Wendi Deng that appears to have inspired everyone’s favorite comedy(?) Succession. While married to Deng, a former News Corp employee, Murdoch broke the trust controlling his media empire to include his two daughters from his third marriage. Heir apparent Lachlan Murdoch (say this in a Logan Roy voice in your head) fucked off to Australia. Then big chunks of Murdoch’s empire went to Disney, he married Hall, and Lachlan returned to the News Corp fold. According to WaPo, the split from Hall is unlikely to affect the trust, but that “he may be more inclined to take more interest in the goings-on of the two companies his family controls.”

Any time I read about these two, I think of that lily Allen tweet about Jerry and hall. It’s a photo from a wedding they were all at, jerry and Rupert walking away from the dinner table and Lily says something about Jerry going to the bathroom to change his nappy.

Good for her, she’s changed enough nappies and I hope she gets well compensated.

What could have caused such a serious rift in the fairytale marriage between billionaire media baron Rupert Murdoch and famed supermodel Jerry Hall? Anyone hoping for a story of high drama, double-crossing and power politics will be left sorely disappointed.

The reason for the divorce? Friends say Jerry cannot stand the kids Rupert shares with Wendi Deng.

She doesn't mind the older set so much but rumour has it that the breaking point in the marriage came when she excluded Wendy's batch from a big family get-together.

Especially galling for Rupert, as he'd been so generous with Jerry's kids. He even gave her son Gabriel's media company a rather handsome contract to produce the Sunday Times Culture Show for him.

Jerry Hall has been left ‘heartbroken’ by the abrupt end of her marriage to media mogul Rupert Murdoch and blames his children for driving a wedge between them, insiders said last night.

Model Miss Hall, who turns 66 today, told a friend: ‘I still love him. I am devastated.’

Miss Hall filed divorce paperwork with the Los Angeles County Court yesterday, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the cause of the break-up.

She also claimed she was ‘unaware of the full nature and extent of all separate property assets and debts’ that will be involved in the hefty divorce. Mr Murdoch has 30 days to file a response to the paperwork. It can be revealed that Miss Hall was waiting in the UK for Mr Murdoch, 91, to join her when he sent an email saying the marriage was over.

The message added that she should communicate with him only via his lawyers.

It was a stunning show of ruthlessness from Mr Murdoch, the chairman and chief executive of News Corp who is worth £14 billion. Sources in Miss Hall’s camp say issues started to arise between them during the pandemic.

Miss Hall apparently assumed a ‘gatekeeping’ role to protect her elderly husband from the risk of Covid. ‘She used to joke that she was the Covid police, she wanted to keep him safe,’ sources said.

She now believes that led his family to think she was seeking to cut their regular contact with her husband of six years.

‘They thought that Jerry was keeping them from him,’ said a pal. ‘She does blame the children for souring the marriage.

‘They had a lot to say about it and a role in his personal life which she found a nasty surprise. Clearly, they mistrusted her.’ Earlier this year, according to the source, there were discussions with Miss Hall and the wider family about her financial status and what she might get when Mr Murdoch died.

It is said that some of the family were concerned that no further provision should be made for Miss Hall at this time.

The source added: ‘Jerry is truly devastated by what has happened and insists that it was all a bolt from the blue. One day they were making plans to be together for the summer in London, then there was this message instructing her to only contact him via lawyers.


Earlier this year, according to a source, there were discussions with Miss Hall and the wider family about her financial status and what she might get when Mr Murdoch died.

I don’t know anything about their marriage or where they lived, but my guess is that she is filing first in California because she thinks that proceedings in California will be more advantageous to her. Just a guess.
