i wish they'd bring genevieve back. the few one-offs she's done in recent years have been pretty good, and she’s a good host and her designs have a little more character and taste than the rest of the current crop of cookie cutters.

Give me the porch. The porch life. I'd set it up like a cafe and sit and rock all day sipping iced coffee with my faithful 130 lb dog laying at my feet.

Oh yes! I'm jumping all in with HGTV here, sorry!!!!
Alison Victoria is so insufferable with her vision of "luxery" that is just tacky. Somehow she's the only unlikeable woman in all of HGTV. The way she shifted all the guilt over to her partner, that was something. Noone is that innocent.
The Fords - ha... Diane Keaton ass, I laughed far too hard.
I do like the wholesome pair, the Napiers, they come across as really sweet and they don't fight each other online, that's refreshing, especially after watching Tarek and Christina, who were just awful on that front, well, he was such an asshole with her all the time.
And the Boise Boys, Clint is a real funny guy in my book. Not sure about his partner, he's a little off.
And my current favories, the Two Chicks And A Hammer women. They seem so genuinly invested in making good homes and it's the only show where the designers seem to really know the people they work with.
Also, I used to like Joanna, but Chip... I'd kill this man after 5 minutes. They are lowkey racist, though and who wants to watch that?
And the canadians, Kortney and Dave, they were funny and had this super-cute-hippie gardener. Got divorced and are dunzo from what I read, too bad.

She was my mom's hgtv favorite. I don't know what happened to her. it's like you two are speaking in tongues. do. not. understand. and what is 'diane keaton ass' LOL yeah it's Leanne Ford from one of the design shows. She looks, talks and has mannerisms like a young Diane Keaton. Think Annie Hall with a can of white paint. Oh yes! I'm jumping all in with HGTV here, sorry!!!! Got divorced and are dunzo from what I read, too bad. Yeah, I like the Napiers too, they seem sweet and genuine, I just don't want to see them turn into the next Chip and Jo. They're obviously the current hgtv darlings and I've seen them on the cover of People Mag a few times now. At least their makeovers don't all look the same and they're not stuck on farmhouse. I haven't watched any of Chip and Jo's new shows on their new network. Mina and Karen are ok, I don't like them as much as I used to. Karen and Mina's dad had lots of marriages and kids between them who seem to come in and out of the show. A former husband of Karen's worked for them for awhile and Tad is Mina's half brother. I think she's gone a little Hollywood, she admitted to some plastic surgery after he last kid and I swear she plumped her lips or something. I can't watch her anymore without focusing on those lips lol.

with mina and karen, i watch if i really don't know what else to watch and i just need mindless background noise. and even then, i always had to fast forward through the demo section of the show - which i do in all the hgtv shows because it's so fucking basic and stupid, and there's a lot of stupid in their male crew. i also can't fucking stand mina, she's so up her own ass and is always squealing and acting cutesy. and she definitely fucked with her face!! i noticed it too. i did like that from the beginning of the show they make all their kitchen cabinets go all the way to the ceiling but if you listen to the talk, really pay attention, the whole thing is basically pro-gentrification propaganda, with no mention of all the people who get displaced from neighbourhoods they can no longer afford, and they're always talking about bringing 'the right kind of people' to the neighbourhoods in which they're renovating their houses and i don't know, the subtext doesn't really sit well with me... but that's true for a lot of hgtv, under the thin veneer of farmhouse sinks and hokey evangelical couples, shiplap and 'family values', there's a whole lot of pro-family, pro-capitalism, pro-gentrification propaganda, not to mention a total disregard for the environment and they all worship at the altar of mindless consumerism. not to mention all the waste!! it enrages me to see the tear down perfectly good cabinets and just throw them away when they could all be recycled, repurposed, donated... and don't get me started on how they all rip out original features to replace them with some horrific french country farmhouse idiocy that doesn't even fit the original style of the house.

Yeah, I think the Hometown couple are the only ones who do any repurposing of things original to the houses, which is nice. And the husband is a woodworker so he will keep the old lumber and other items to be used in future projects. The rest of them are all like DEMO DAY! and start swinging sledgehammers. Like maybe some of this stuff could be used by Habitat for Humanity.
That's why I'm kinda liking the Detroit guys (I think it's Bargain Block) they take these homes and really do work on a budget. They're not showstopper homes but they all sell for about $100k which is great for 1st time buyers and it rids the neighborhood of all the boarded up houses which brings in crime and makes it hard for the people who already live there, so it improves things for everyone. I think Karen and Mina kinda started that way but now they're putting more and more money into the homes and you can't touch anything for less than $350k, which is still out of reach for many, especially in downtown Indianapolis.

The off-center chandelier in the master would drive me nuts, and I hate the weird cage-looking shower enclosure. But I love the rest of it. Kitchen is gorgeous, the windows and wood trim and floors and marble fireplace are beautiful. I wonder if it's haunted.

To everyone asking about the area, I live in the Atlanta area and would consider this part of town as transitional. It's more on the up and coming side (Westside) as opposed to other neighborhoods which were either maintained better or are further along in gentrification. A similar home on the other side of the interstate maybe a couple of miles away would be more in the $1M range with better options for shopping and restaurants, access to the beltline, etc.
That being said, I really like so many elements of this house except that bathroom is terrible, especially the shower. I would feel like I was in a casino cage.

I really don't remember seeing her house but I haven't really watched lately. It doesn't surprise me though. I hate when people don't build for the neighborhood. We have a lot of variety in my neighborhood, but there are a few that overbuilt IMO and to me, they just stick out like sore thumbs.
