I can't wrap my mind around paying 44 billion dollars for an unprofitable company that produces nothing of real value. Of course he tried to get out of it. He might want to look into treatment for ADHD. It's very reminiscent of the night he was trying to impress Grimes and then ran afoul of the SEC. Because he made an incredibly inadvisable Tweet about buying back his stock at "420". There was some financial reporter who raved about how brilliant he was based on her interviews with him. It is amazing how easily impressed people are.

Racist Tweets Fly Across Twitter After Elon Musk Finalizes Purchase of PlatformNot long after Tesla founder Elon Musk took control of Twitter, trolls littered the site with hate speech and Nazi memes, raising fears that the social media platform could become a home for online hate. The Washington Post reported that the flood of racist and hateful posts is a clear signs the site has changed ownership. One tweet, a racial slur in capital letters, was retweeted more than 700 times and liked more than 5,000 times. Other accounts have included swastikas as profile pictures, glorifying Nazi Germany, and tweets denouncing the LGBTQ+ community. The rise in hate speech has led many to believe the return of Former President Donald Trump to the site is imminent. However, Musk tweeted that he has not made any changes to Twitter’s content moderation policies. One change that numerous outlets have reported is that Twitter will begin charging $20 per month for its blue check verification. The blue checkmark is typically used to verify that statements are coming from specific individuals and organizations. Musk seemingly wants to turn it into a status symbol. Musk tweeted Friday that he will form a new moderation council, offering little information about the council, who will be on it, or what it will be tasked with. Paul M. Barrett, New York University’s Center For Business and Human Rights deputy director, told the Washington Post that a council under Musk would be highly criticized considering his “notoriously erratic and imperious personality.” “To make an advisory body work, he would have to give it some degree of independence and make it very transparent,” Barrett said. “Frankly, I am not that optimistic, but as the whole Musk-Twitter saga has illustrated, he is full of surprises.” Musk’s other company, Tesla, has paid millions in racial discrimination lawsuits due to the alleged treatment of Black workers at Tesla plants. Even the state of California is suing the electric vehicle giant. According to the Washington Post, Musk has yet to meet with Twitter employees and although rumors of layoffs have impacted the workforce since Musk took over, no one was laid off Friday, and most employees said it was business as usual at its headquarters. General Motors told CNBC that it will temporarily suspend its advertising on the platform until the direction of the company under Musk becomes clear. -- fucking SCUM.

I got a perma-ban from Twitter for (probably) MUCH less than that. I don't know what I did, because I never got a response from them after I asked, but it sure as hell wasn't that. I'm understanding it's become a cesspool anyway, they're losing sponsors right and left, and people are dropping their accounts like crazy anyway.

every libertarian douche bro i know is obsessed with elon. it's pathetic to hear them fan boy about him and his alleged brilliance.
my guess is he's going to quietly step up moderation when enough people start leaving and new twitter will eventually be pretty much the same as old twitter. that or anyone that isn't a racist right wing troll will jump ship and elon will be left with a worthless company because the only reason racist right wing trolls love twitter is so they can go after liberals and if there aren't any left, they're going to quickly lose interest. it's what's happened with every social media platform the right wing has tried to create, from parler to truth social. none of them have really grown to become anything like twitter or IG or tiktok. even their conservative dating apps are a total failure because there aren't enough women on them.

I mostly use twitter to follow academics, most of them are considering leaving the platform and asking about other alternatives. I guess I'll also follow if they do as I have very little interest in what's going on Twitter, I like my feed drama free

I think going forward there will be less censorship on Twitter, but it won't end up as the free for all that people currently posting racial slurs and what not think it will be. Musk has advertizers to answer to and yes, too many people would leave. He may style himself as a free speech absolutist, but I'm pretty sure he would hate losing 44 billion dollars more than he hates censorship.

I deactivated my twit account, apparently it deletes after 30 days of no activity. Have heard good stuff about mastodon, but am not really motivated yet. 🙄

It's now being reported that up to a million accounts have been deactivated since Musk took over and that there's been a 500% jump in internet searches asking how to delete Twitter.

And, he's lost most of his advertisers at this point.
And I'm not paying this douche $8 per month for a check mark by my name.

I can't wait until Bluesky opens. If y'all didn't know, its being developed by Dorsey, the same guy who started Twitter. He took Elon's money and is using it to start up Twitter's competition.
Obviously, Elon was too fucking stupid to add a noncompete into his sale contract, LOL!

Ugg, he's really making me start to regret my tesla purchase.
Elon is such an ego driven maniac. He's laying off 50% of twitter staff. How?!

And, he's lost most of his advertisers at this point. Nobody with any sense wants to be the brand that finds their advertisements popping up between antisemitism and N-bombs. Also several public figures who've beefed with Musk, including AOC, are reporting that they've suddenly had restrictions put on their accounts, had all their followers cut off and been muted. Nearly 4,000 staff have been told to expect the chop. Many British staff are saying that they only found out when they went to log on to their laptops and found that they'd been remotely wiped and locked. Many, many others were told to expect an e-mail - if it went to their Twitter e-mail they were safe, otherwise it would go to their personal e-mail. Can you imagine having to constantly flick between your work and personal accounts all day to find out whether you still had a job or not? A large percentage of those who have been given their marching orders are rumoured to have been on the moderation teams. Meanwhile on a lighter note...

Obviously, Elon was too fucking stupid to add a noncompete into his sale contract, LOL! Blue-sky isn't a social media platform its a protocol that links up existing social media pages together. Plus Dorsey is close to Muskrat and they're working together on this because musk wants a similar site like we chat like in China and that is what he envisions. Frankly I doubt the site will survive because he's just sacked a huge amount of people who help keep the site moving and is cutting costs on cloud storage. That's going to break it and will make twitter vulnerable to hacks or worse. He's a fucking idiot and I personally think he was goaded into buying it as a way so other smarter sharks could get their hands on his other companies because he's using them to partially finance this deal.
