Meanwhile, as Musk continues to wage Twitter war on human rights, his platform continues to burn. All of this twitter stuff shows that he is not a good business man, the very opposite in fact.

He's focusing on petty, personal things instead of his bottom line. He's a lot like Trump.

I certainly see and agree with what you are all saying but why hasn't twitter collapsed yet? I feel like this shit (and Trumps lasting power) prove something. I'm not sure what except the very rich and the very powerful never fail or get their comeuppance. Like the game is more seriously rigged than we imagine.
Musk's sociopathic leadership should have fully tanked Twitter by now. But here we are.

I heard that Facebook just launched a new platform called Threads, to directly compete with Twitter.

Threads is very much like Twitter but they need to add a few more features to it (you can't quote, use hashtags or see what's trending) but I guess legally they can't make it an exact copy!

I was at the dentist this morning and they had Live with Kelly and Mark on. They were talking about the cage match between the Musk and Zuckerberg and Kelly said she pictures it like this... and proceeded to have a ridiculous slapfest with Mark. She typically annoys me, but I got a chuckle out of that.

He didn't bankroll it all by himself - there's a lot of loans with banks, large chunks of which are propped up by Tesla stock and a lot of private investors, including a Qatari sovereign fund and a Saudi prince. Threads is very much like Twitter but they need to add a few more features to it (you can't quote, use hashtags or see what's trending) but I guess legally they can't make it an exact copy! It's very early days for Threads and it sounds like they have somewhat pushed ahead a little too quickly to take advantage of the growing disenchantment with Twitter and to pick up those people before they get into BlueSky and Mastodon. However, everything I've seen on tv and heard on the radio from people trying it out seems very positive and that there's lots of room yet for Threads to grow and round itself out. I just wish they'd picked another name as it's the same as a nightmarish film from 1984 depicting a post-nuclear war world ( Threads (Wikipedia) I refuse to watch it but Bloke says that it's the only film that has ever stopped him from sleeping well for a few nights after watching it. EDIT: Well, it looks like Threads is off to a good start lol. And Space Karen is going Full Karen.

Unless the employees had a non compete, FB can hire whomever they want.
If it's filled with the same right wing nut jobs that Twitter has, I'll pass.

Tell the programmers that he fired that they aren't allowed to work in programming anymore? Plus I don't think a lot of them give a toss about whether there's a non-compete or not, seeing as though there's a class action being brought by all the former Twitter staff who have been stiffed by Musk on their severance payments. So far (from what I'm reading from people who are trying it out) Threads is actively moderating and fact checking, which is sending the Right Wing elements into fits as they are being flagged as repeatedly posting false information (see the screencaps in my previous post). Of course, the obvious solution is for anyone left or centrist leaning to stick around on Threads and take advantage of it being moderated by reporting the kind of crap that Twitter lets slide these days instead of letting them take over yet another online playground.

They're hired by Meta. Like them or not, they know what they do when it comes to stuff like this. I really don't think Twitter has any legal grounds to sue.

I don't think the issue is non-compete agreements as much as it is NDA's (non-disclosure agreements). Non-compete means you can't go work for a competitor in the same industry. Non-disclosure means that you can't disclose trade secrets or closely held information about things like algorithms, source code, software architecture, etc. Proving violation of an NDA might be difficult, though. You would need an insider basically testifying that someone at Meta was giving up this kind of inside information, and then Twitter would see if that was a violation of the NDA. But it would only be actionable against the employee, not Meta. The other issue, too, is over patents. Twitter has about 2,000 active patents that could be used as the basis for accusing Meta/Threads of patent infringement. Some would be really obvious, while others would not. Once again, an insider could testify to whether Meta was reusing code, etc. from Twitter. In the 1990's there were huge patent lawsuits between Apple, Microsoft, and even Stac Software over operating systems and violation of patents.
