^ Not speaking for Germany, but living close to it and having a similar culture - we didn't have Halloween growing up, but we do now. Maybe not as celebrated as in the US, but still kids running around trick and treating, and some people taking it very seriously. I've been invited to Halloween parties in the last couple of years. BUT Germans are, depending on the region, very big with Fasching (carnival). Dressing up is very much in our genes. Depending on the country and region there are traditional costumes, but especially as a child you are allowed to dress up as whatever you want to be. You'll see princesses, robots, crocodiles, you name it. A couple of years ago, the city I live in had a Halloween themed Karneval. It was kind of weird having spooky costumes and decorations in February.
