Kris Kristofferson, ‘A Star Is Born’ actor and Grammy-winning country singer, dead at 88 By Gabi Duncan Published Sep. 29, 2024 Updated Sep. 29, 2024, 6:43 p.m. ET Kris Kristofferson, the Grammy-winning singer known for his leading role in 1976’s “A Star Is Born,” has died. He was 88. He was surrounded by family when he passed away “peacefully” at his home in Maui, Hawaii, on Saturday, Variety reported Sunday. “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 28, at home,” his family said in a statement to the outlet. “We’re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he’s smiling down at us all.” The statement was shared on behalf of Kristofferson’s wife, Lisa; his eight children, Tracy, Kris Jr., Casey, Jesse, Jody, John, Kelly and Blake; and his seven grandchildren. No cause of death has been revealed. Reps for Kristofferson did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment Kristofferson got his big break in Hollywood with his role opposite Barbra Streisand in the 1976 remake of “A Star Is Born.” His performance as self-destructive rocker John Norman Howard earned the actor a Golden Globe Award in 1977.

Just saw this on CNN, RIP Kris. I liked him in Millennium from 1989. Shoot, we're losing so many lately! 😔

Dang, we can't have a thread without Me And Bobby McGee to sing us out..................RIP, Kris. We need to reinforce the prayer circle around Bob Dylan!

Aw, he was one of the good ones. RIP.
I appreciated him more as an actor, and my favorite role was as an evil sheriff in Lonestar.

It's quite confronting to read the age of the celebs most of us remember from something they did in their prime. I mostly remember Kris from the time he was married to Rita Coolidge and when he starred in A Star is Born with Streisand. I read somewhere he apparently was not always a good husband to Coolidge. But I also remember the time he stood up for Sinead O'Connor. R.I.P.

Jeez, Pete Rose and John Amos now. Make it stop. You can add basketball player Dikembe Mutombo to that list
