Can adults get palate expansion still? I thought I recently read that it's best to have that done early on. My daughter (now 13) got her expander on in 2nd grade, braces before 3rd and poor kid is STILL going strong with them. She's had 6 teeth pulled. Such a tiny mouth, but we're doing all we can to fix it up.
Poor Bea, her bite is terrible even though her teeth are relatively straight.

William has a similar issue though not as extreme as Bea's. A friend from childhood lived in Belgium for a time and got braces there in the mid 60s. They were removed and redone when they moved back to the States. The American orthodontist said her old braces were a mess, and this was almost 60 years ago. Also have a niece who went through years of braces in the late 80's-early 90's. When she was just 7 my SIL actually inserted and turned a key in her mouth a bit every day to split her upper palette!

^^^Oh! I had one of those - I did it myself!
eta: I loved it - it definitely changed the shape of my face - gave me better definition - better cheekbones. It was a long time ago, but I'm starting to remember more about it and that I really liked the results.

Expanding a palate sounds painful! I do know from 2 of my nieces that you have to be faithful with appliances and do it for as long as they say you should -- even if the appliance is cumbersome.
There is a very funny episode of The Middle where Sue and her mom insist the orthodontist remove her appliances that she'd been wearing for years. They thought her teeth were ready -- he kept saying not yet she needs more time. Well, they were removed and her teeth went all janky. Yes, played for comic relief, but there's a kernel of truth in there. Patience during the teen years is very difficult though.

i know an adult who had the palate expander ... i remember it was a big deal and they had to use that key thing to gradually widen her palate. she said it was quite painful.

i'm not as traumatized by their imperfect teeth as our american members are but yeah it's totally a cultural thing and europeans for the most part don't care as much about teeth, not like americans do. even the very wealthy like the BRF. it is what it is.

Agreed. There's just not an obsession with having perfect teeth here. I personally don't care at all if people don't have straight/great teeth.

^^^ same. if you're blessed with great teeth or got orthodontia, great. but i would much rather the royals' horsy teeth and imperfect teeth in general than veneers or teeth that have been bleached so white they're blue.

Or super white The American glow-in-the-dark-sparkly-white actually freaks me out. What's wrong with your teeth having a colour that does not make you look insanely fake?

Bad teeth/a bad bite doesn't just look fug. It ruins your whole jaw, face and potentially health. I don't think it's that Brits don't care. I don't think their insurance covers it. Why she doesn't care I have no idea. I mean, I may be ugly but I'm pretty healthy despite by overcrowding. I've never had a medical professional take concern over the straightness of my teeth as an adult. 🤷♀️

not a fan of super white teeth or veneers, either. but i probably could've used a palate expander when i was a kid, don't think i could deal with that level of discomfort now, though.
