I think everyone must have known his days were numbered but they are switching it up a little by choosing a plane crash.

i think this time he wanted to be as shameless and open about it as possible. a signal to anyone else in russia thinking of being disloyal that he can kill them openly and get away with it. i was watching an analysis on the bbc and the consensus is the plane was shot down with a surface to air missile because basically the wing came off mid flight. no plausible deniability necessary.

Poisoning and defenestration by now would have been much too prosaic as punishment for the scale of Prigozhin's crimes. It had to be a spectacle.

We all knew it was only a question of when and how. So I am wondering why Prigozhin would have dared to be in Moscow, and why anyone would board a plane with a marked man.

It kinda sounds like he was listed on the plane's manifest, but his body hasn't been recovered yet, while others have.

People have been saying that he often changed his travel plans at the last minute, or scheduled himself to be on multiple flights/routes at the same time so he was harder to hit, so it's still possible he's alive somewhere, although it wouldn't be like Putin to make this kind of mistake.  I expect that if he IS alive he's going to be mightily pissed, which is not going to be good news for his former boss.

In pictures: Wreckage surveyed after plane crash

We're getting new pictures from Russia's Tver region, where emergency specialists and police are surveying the wreckage of a private jet linked to Yevgeny Prigozhin.

The Kremlin is yet to confirm whether the Wagner chief died in the plane crash yesterday, but aviation officials said he was one of six passengers on board.

Yesterday's crash in the Tver region, north-west of the capital Moscow, killed all 10 people aboard the private plane.

Prigozhin's aircraft - an Embraer-135 (EBM-135BJ) - was flying from Moscow to St Petersburg with seven passengers and three crew, Russia's Rosaviatsia aviation authority said.
