it's funny i'm not too chicken for botox but i've been too chicken to get a chemical peel. definitely report back i'm so tempted to get that and/or laser.
which ones are for ageing? chemical or laser? i'm not sure i even know the difference between the two.

I've decided to go for the enzyme/chemical peel option and we will discuss the details more once I'm in the office and she can take a closer look at my skin. I'm going to call today to see if we can do a peel on the chest/neck as well - since I'm gonna be there. I'm pretty darned good about sunscreen but after 48 years that skin is just as dodgy as the face, if not more.
I did some reading on laser but I think I'd rather discuss that option with her in person once I'm there, maybe I'll do that at another time. She's been doing chemical peels there since god was a boy so I went with the option she had the most experience with. I have NO IDEA what I'm doing lol. It's all part of the adventure.

Definitely regular facials if I had the extra $.
...and a landscaper to weed my garden so I could enjoy the outside without getting fussed about all the weeds.

OMG, I hadn't even considered using the money to bring someone in to do some domestic services. I would LOVE to have my carpets cleaned. That seems like the best of self care! What a great idea.

Oh I just had my chemical peel/facial and it was amazing. A little weird having someone touch my face so much but once I relaxed into it all was well. We ultimately decided to do their level 2 chemical peel (trichloroacetic acid and retinol basically). I did remember to take before pictures just an hour before I went so I'll update once I have some decent after pictures, everything right now doesn't look too much different except that my skin looks plump and dewy but that's really just the stuff they put on at the end of the facial rather than results of the peel.
Overall, a really lovely experience. The acids had a pretty strong chemical fume smell but it was bearable and short lived once it was all on my face/chest. The chest and neck didn't really sting at all but the face (particularly around my nose and between my eyebrows) stung quite a bit. Absolutely manageable without any actual muscle clenching. More irritating than anything. The whole event was 75 minutes and cost $170, which I thought was absolutely reasonable for face and chest (face alone is 130).
It's anticipated that my skin will be tender and sting a bit for the next two days (right now it doesn't sting at all). I need to be cautious with sun exposure for the next 10-14 days but elsewise I can do most anything I want. I also have been advised to limit my skincare products to just gentle cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen for the next 10 days or so. I may end up with some flaking, redness, peeling or even swelling ... since this is my first one no one really knows how the healing will go.
I'm SO glad I did this. If nothing else, the adventure has been a really nice thing!

I'm happy to hear from the "chicken's", count me in there. I had a facial three weeks ago. I'd like to do it more often. All the skin care and foundation goes on much nicer. I'd stick with my weekly manicure and have more frequent pedicures. Maybe more luxurious skin care and go whole hog on the clean makeup I wear from the Credo store. Roen makes my favorite eye pencil. I bought a huge bottle of lemongrass body wash from them. Ohh the luxurious scent with no toxins. $22. I put some in a squeeze bottle for easy use. Ok, I just decided I'd buy stuff rather than spending on services. Although... Burnt- your face experience sounded great! I'm very happy to hear about the no smokes. Oh does my friend have mouth lines from the many years. She is so pretty, even with the lines, but now they bother her in her 50's. And who knows why people use those prickly metal rollers on their faces? Don't prick holes in your skin please!

I love this thread. When I got sick last year, I feel like I aged overnight. I have lines on my forehead and the dreaded 11s. I have recently realized how much I frown so now I’m constantly rubbing the bridge of my nose to make myself stop. And the frown lines around my mouth. But I’ve been much better about being consistent with moisturizing, etc, so at least that’s something.

I had to take a look in here because I went to get my hair done a few weeks ago and was floored by the prices. I quit coloring my hair during covid and I ended up really liking it. I’m not gray, minus a few strands here and there, and my natural color is dark blond/light brown. It’s a nice color and my hair was so healthy. I wanted a change so I booked an appointment to get highlights. I was pretty consistent with keeping up my color and cut prior to 2020, so I was pretty used to the cost. I almost fell over when the stylist told me she charged $150 per hour and that my hair was going to be 4 to 5 hours. Add to it the cost of the cut, which was $85, and on the high end I’d be over $1000 bucks with tip! I felt terrible and told her to just do the cut and I had her do a treatment on me because she was expecting a pretty big ticket. She apologized for not telling me her pricing up front (and the amount of time) and I told her I was to blame as well. I should have asked. It’s all the new processes they do. The “hand painted” balayage and it’s lovely, but not for me. Of course, I live in Southern California, so I have a feeling that factors in.
I haven’t done Botox for cosmetic purposes, but I do it for migraines. Honesty, it doesn’t bother me much at all. I don’t consider myself to have a very high threshold for pain and I was surprised. I do 31 shots in my face, head, neck, and shoulders. One time I had some slight swelling and bruising at one of the injection sites.

I did invest in a pricey cut a few months ago and was left awfully disappointed. I have very fine straight hair and have been cutting it myself for an age and a half, I figured I'd splurge. I basically shelled out roughly $80 for my cut and I really do think I have done this exact same cut on myself 100 times. I've never had it professionally colored but the woman cutting my hair said hers is $100/hr for color (hand painted) and I'm in Southern Indiana...

I’m pretty used to paying $85 for the cut. That’s been fairly standard around here for a few years. It’s the price per hour for color. I would have paid $750 for color alone. I better get used to my natural color! Lol

One time I had some slight swelling and bruising at one of the injection sites. that's fucking ridiculous. even for california. i'm in new york right now for work and went back to my hairstylist and his prices have increased in the 11+ years i've been going to him and even with new york prices i paid about 340 for a cut and highlights, and they're 'hand painted' too (um, how else do they do highlights if not by hand?). he doesn't charge per hour. highlights are more for longer hair (i pay the price for medium) but even so it would only be about 50$ more. and 5 hours? even when i had long hair and got it cut and a full head of highlights it was never more than 3 hours. and this is a kind of trendy salon in brooklyn.
