Britney Spears cited after driving at an ‘unsafe speed,' court records show

The pop star was ticketed nearly four months after being released from a controversial conservatorship that she said prevented her from driving alone.

The California Highway Patrol recently cited Britney Spears after authorities said they saw her driving at an “unsafe speed for prevailing conditions,” according to court records obtained by NBC News.

The pop star was pulled over on March 10. The records do not detail where she was driving, the conditions or at what speed.

The citation comes on the heels of Spears celebrating being able to drive on her own once again.

In a since-deleted post earlier this month, Spears wrote that her conservatorship had made her feel “like a hopeless old woman” and noted she wasn’t allowed to drive alone for 13 years.

Spears was famously released from a controversial conservatorship on Nov. 12, 2021, which limited her freedom to do things as she pleased, including driving.

In her testimony against the conservatorship last summer, Spears said she also was not allowed to be driven by her boyfriend.

“Now, going forward, I’m not willing to meet or see anyone I’m not with — (I’ve met with) enough people against my will, I’m done,” she said at the time. “All I want is to own my money for this and my boyfriend to drive me in his f---ing car.”

Spears is scheduled to appear in court for the traffic citation on May 3, 2022. Her lawyer did not immediately respond to NBC News' request for comment.

eta: I'm talking about the baby on board, not the baby that is and probably always will be Britney. How long after baby is born will baby daddy file for sole custody? It's all very sad. You know, if they really gave a damn about her, they could have had her in serious therapy all those years of the conservatorship. They could force her to do a Las Vegas residency, so they could have forced therapy.  It seems like that is what Amanda Bynes parents did for her, because, you know, they give a damn about their daughter. 

It's so irritating knowing exactly how other people should run their lives.

Kevin Federline is not too pleased about Britney Spears' latest salvo -- that he wouldn't see her when she was pregnant -- and his lawyer has delivered a not-so-veiled threat, saying her account is false.

Attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, was leaving Craig's Thursday night, when a photog asked about Brit's most recent post, where she says, "... geez my ex-husband wouldn't see me when I flew to New York with a baby inside me and Las Vegas when he was shooting a video!!!"

Kaplan called her out, saying her account "is completely the opposite of what's true, she knows that," adding this warning ... "She should be very careful about pursuing a dialogue that's based on revisionist history."



In case that threat was too oblique, Kaplan got more specific ... "That story about Kevin in Las Vegas and Britney is completely erroneous, and he's not going to stand by and let that story besmirch what he did and his support of her back in the day."




Kaplan says this has nothing to do with jealousy, adding Kevin believes Britney has every right to pursue her relationship with Sam Asghari, but then adds, "But when she starts talking about the way things were when Jayden and Preston were infants that's completely fabricated. Kevin is not going to let that stand by and let that be the portrayal of fact."
