^^^ and the vast majority of them wouldn't do that if the gopro was showing them entering a bank with a knife or a machete and maybe managing to stab one person before getting tackled to the ground and restrained.

Other developed countries all have internet and domestic violence, they don't have the level of mass shootings and daily murders like the US does.

You can try to outrun a knifeman. You can throw things to stop or slow them while you escape. You can barricade yourself in somewhere and they can't knife you through the window unless they want to slash themselves to pieces in the attempt. Not so much when the attacker has an assault rifle. We're never going to be able to stop crazy people doing terrible things but that's no reason not to do what you can to limit the damage they can do before the inevitable takedown.

but all of that - the echo chambers, the toxic masculinity, the violence - would have a much, much lower death toll if access to guns, and especially semi-automatic guns, wasn't so fucking easy that any mentally ill domestic abuser can amass a fucking arsenal without setting off any red flags anywhere. you can't kill as many people with a gun, or even a regular hunting rifle, and i bet 3/4 of these guys wouldn't do this if they didn't have their semi-automatic and their body armour that lets them do way, way more damage before anyone can stop them. I totally agree. I hate that it is harder for me to buy cold medicine in the US than it is to get a gun. The pro-gun lobby has pissed me off so much that I don't want them to have any guns at all, not even a fucking musket.
My post was really just about the role of the internet in encouraging the thinking and the behavior behind the attacks. I don't think any of the 'reasons' for mass shootings have easy solutions, but taking away the weapons would have a big impact. You can't easily fix how people think, but you can definitely make it harder for them to kill large groups of people.
