Reese Witherspoon's husband Jim Toth's 'midlife crisis' reportedly fuelled their ongoing divorce after the actress announced their 'difficult decision' to split. The star, 47, who have a 10-year-old son Tennesse, shared the news after almost 12 years of marriage, saying they took 'a great deal of care and consideration.' And now, an alleged friend of the family has claimed that actor and producer Jim, 52, is 'no longer the same man' that Reese married. They explained how he began 'dressing like someone half his age' with 'weird jewellery and tattoos.' The pal explained to The US Sun: 'Jim is the one who has changed massively just in the last few years. Jim just isn't the guy Reese married and had a son with anymore.' Reese and Jim sold their production company Hello Sunshine for almost $1 billion in 2021, with the money sending them 'in different directions.' They added: 'His personality, his attitude and his whole take on life really changed when he got out of the agency business and decided he was tired of that stuffy world and being in the service business in general.' 'Call it a midlife crisis if you want but that's when the tattoos, the chunky, weird jewellery, and dressing like somebody half his age really took hold.' www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-11901555/Reese-Witherspoons-pal-reveals-husband-Jim-Toths-midlife-crisis-fuelled-divorce.html

That is super weird about men's tendency to do this whole thing for a midlife crisis. Like they lose their goddamned mind and all common sense and live in a silly adolescent fantasy, to hell with how it affects family.

So basically he's a big ole man child.
His loss. Not hers. The only reason I knew who this dude was is because of who he was married to. That's probably why they had a billion dollar company TO sell.
In other words, she can do better. Hell, even being single forever sounds like it would be better.
Being single and being Reese Witherspoon? Probably 10x better.

I always wondered what a middle-aged crisis was and why people were supposed to experience it. I thought it was the idea that you got to a certain age and you somehow didn't reach some of the milestones in life you thought you should - like having a fling, a cool sports coupe, ability to live like an unfettered bachelor/bachelorette. I guess I could understand it for someone who got married and had kids at a really early age. That wouldn't apply here, though.
I also don't think the Reese is especially good at choosing partners. Ryan Phillipe is a beautiful man but give off strong a-hole vibes.

Agree about your take on Ryan, about his a-hole vibes but they married so young that it's expected to make mistakes in choosing partners.
Re: the midlife crisis, I do think it's a missing-out fear, but probably driven by some existential freakout at their undeniable aging and mortality. Not all men react to it like this, but enough to make it such a sad, predictable cliche.

Not all men react to it like this, but enough to make it such a sad, predictable cliche. I’ve moved into practising family law, previously did crime and then family violence. whenever some guy loses their shit and has a midlife crisis, it’s always because a. He’s decided to replace his long suffering wife for a younger, hotter model because lol what is loyalty, or b. He’s feeling scared because his wife makes more money than him and is quite capable of looking after herself without him. I suspect b applies here.

But if they also sold their production company for silly money (did I read a billion dollars?) He's spent most of his adult life fawning over the talent as an agent. If he now has $$$ he doesn't need to do that.
Plus he is at the ripe age for pubity #2.

In this case I think it's more likely he's been cheating than a power/money thing.

i think it might be kind of a combination of both. before they sold the production company she made more $$$ and had the recognition and that might have kept him in line but now he's got almost half a billion dollars to his name he doesn't need her anymore and therefore doesn't have to be a good husband and behave anymore either and wants out.

Yep ^ I recommend that he spend some of that money on a good dentist. "And now, a source has claimed that Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth lost any romantic feelings for each other after the years. “There’s no big scandal or drama, just two people who essentially became co-parents and don’t really have any romantic feelings for each other anymore,” the insider claimed. The source continued to Page Six that Reese Witherspoon “once liked the fact that (Jim) was just a solid, dependable and stable guy.”"
