I managed to catch most of the two-hour premier last night - despite having to pick up our son at the commuter parking lot right in the middle of it. Anyway, we got back home in time for the last immunity challenge and then all the scheming by the losing tribe. I missed a couple of key discussions about who was going to go out, but it had one of the best tribal council switcheroos I've seen in a long time. I don't think I ever saw this particular thing - someone literally getting voted out with just one vote when there were at least 6 people on the council - ever happen at a tribal council. Our son and I were just rolling watching it unfold.... LOL

I can't believe this show is still on. I think I quit after season 3? When was Boston Rob?

I can't believe this show is still on. I think I quit after season 3? When was Boston Rob? I looked it up -- and that guy has been on FIVE different seasons. He married another contestant, Amber Brkich, in 2005, and they now have 4 children. Speaking of game shows I can't believe are still on - Jeopardy - the dullest thing I ever saw. Actually watched a few minutes of it a few weeks ago - amazingly consistent in its dullness. how is it season 44? do they do 2 a year? It started in 2000, so they are averaging almost two a year. After watching the first 2 all the way through, I have only watched sporadically. There was one period where there was one of the most annoying contestants of all time - Russell Hantz - it pretty much killed most of my love for the show, even though he got his just desserts.

i watched a little bit last night, probably the first time i've watched this in 15+ years.
i thought the most annoying participant was the lady with the ukelele.
mo, are you saying that jeopardy is dull?? *confused*

I've watched every season up until the last one - the first episode introduced another bunch of tiresome famewhores, and the format is full of ridiculous twists and there are too many hidden immunity idols and other crap that they call "game-changers" but are really just interventions by the producers to stir shit up or keep their favourites from being voted out.
On the other hand, this season of Australian Survivor is one of the best ever - the last season was garbage, and they seem to have taken a few lessons from it, and put together a sublime cast.

Yes, I've never liked Jeopardy. I realize it's still insanely popular, a cultural touchstone and part of the national lexicon.

i love jeopardy.
at first i hated ken as an emcee, but he has gotten a lot better. am liking mayim less (i thought she was great in the beginning) and am glad she is only an occasional host.

I totally agree! I really liked Mayim, now she annoys me because I think she takes too long to say if they got the answer correct, like a second before she says “yes”. I always think it’s wrong at first. However, I’m surprised that Mo is not a jeopardy fan with all of his intellect.

i watched a little bit last night, probably the first time i've watched this in 15+ years. i thought the most annoying participant was the lady with the ukelele. mo, are you saying that jeopardy is dull?? *confused* The whole stripped-down humorless presentation with that giant grid reminds me of waiting at the MVA or something. I think Faithanne makes a great case about all these dubious hidden advantages that Survivor has come up with. As an example, on the season premiere, THREE idols were presented at tribal council. One was the traditional one (immunity) and two were "shot in the dark". "Shot in the dark" is conditional. Jeff has to open the idol in front of the council and confirm whether it grants you immunity or not. The one advantage is that it does prevent a voting block from riding roughshod over everyone else. Last season, there was a third idol that let you ask a tribal council member if they had an immunity idol, and if they did, they had to give it up on the spot. That one backfired spectacularly on a player who did not realize that her target had given his idol to a trusted teammate for safekeeping. So, yeah, it's gotten a little crazy.... The whole show is very backstabby with mediocre players making it to the final two, and often winning because butt-hurt people on the final tribal council use it as a way of getting revenge on someone who got them voted out. i love jeopardy. at first i hated ken as an emcee, but he has gotten a lot better. am liking mayim less (i thought she was great in the beginning) and am glad she is only an occasional host. I totally agree! I really liked Mayim, now she annoys me because I think she takes too long to say if they got the answer correct, like a second before she says “yes”. I always think it’s wrong at first. However, I’m surprised that Mo is not a jeopardy fan with all of his intellect. Thanks for the compliment. Following along with a Jeopardy episode is like the opposite of what I want to do when I get off work or am not studying. For an even more extreme example, my brother's wife is a physician who sees like 25-30 patients a day, and her favorite TV past-time apparently is watching all the "Real Housewives" shows.

Man, I loved Survivor so hard when it came out but then a few seasons in they started really messing with the format. The competitions were less and less about actual survival/endurance and became more like silly games. If they went back to season one format I'd watch in a heartbeat.

notoriousmkgYes, that was a wild tribal council. I've watched Survivor from the very beginning, & I wish it would go back to the bare bones like it used to be. I hate all the hidden advantages/immunity idols & "twists" that screw people over. I DESPISED the one with the hourglass. WORST TWIST EVER IN THE HISTORY OF REALITY COMPETITION SHOWS! I hate that they're only out there for 26 days now instead of 39. So, they've put in a million advantages/immunity idols, & shortened the season. I don't love this show like I did before they kept adding more & more hidden idols & advantages. Oh, & ITA about Russell Hantz! Such a miserable person! And they even had him on again! Yuck. And then they casted one of his nephews on it as well (not in the same season as Russell) & then another nephew was casted on Big Brother & got removed from the game for head butting another contestant. That family is full of real classy folks. /s

^Do yourself a favour, try and watch Australian Survivor if you can - this season has not had a bad episode, and it's closer to the original US format (I think it goes for about 45 days) but there are 3 episodes a week so prepare to give up time with family and friends, unless you can get them hooked along with you.
