she was referring to a specific type of man look, but it's usually referred to balkan style, not specific to montenegro. but yeah it's not really a thing outside of europe so i can see how it came across as pretentious to americans. she's always very uptight and try-hard wannabe intellectual when she talks to the media.

OT: When I was sick, I actually watched that movie Angelina wrote and directed on her honeymoon with Brad that's set in France or Italy, but was filmed in Montenegro. It was a fucking stupid movie, but the scenery made me want to change my name and disappear there forever.

Since they only did two movies together obvs it was that second that mirrored their relationship on the downhill slide.
Nowhere near as exciting or fun as Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

It was By the Sea. I had to google it. I knew it had one of those names that's so obvious it's forgettable. The plot was super cringe, for lack of a better word. She claims to have made it when she was grieving her mother's death...which is not the movie I would make for my mom, but I'm not Angelina.

by the sea was awful.
it would be easier for me to name the movies of hers i did like instead of the movies i don't:
1. mr&mrs smith 2. girl interrupted 3. salt, but she was terribly miscast.

I still have never seen Mr and Mrs Smith. I remember at the time liking Pushing Tin which I think was how she met Billy Bob. I haven't seen Girl, Interrupted in forever. I wonder if it held up. I was curious about SALT, but Angelina looked so miscast I didn't think I'd like it.

I thought she was completely miscast in that movie. She was so painfully thin and frail in this movie she looked like she would break a limb if she stepped out of a bus or train the wrong way. And looking like that she's supposed to be kicking everyone's ass?

exactly. i think it would've been a really good movie if they cast someone who lookd like they work out.

Or even just made her start eating and have a body like she did in tomb raider. Or even Mr & Mrs Smith for that matter.
I don't know what was going on in her life then. Was that around the time her mother died? Maybe a low point with Vanilla Pitt?

i also liked foxfire back in the day and loved the book too. pushing tin girl, interrupted mr & mrs smith
but i feel like after that she started doing only bloated, overly earnest shit like beyond borders or that stupid movie where she played marianne pearl, and just taking herself way too seriously. or kids' blockbusters to pay the bills.

Nothing complex. Just that her actually wanting to be a boy was a bunch of bullshit. I was the same way as a kid. I was always happier in 'boy clothes' with my hair tucked up under a baseball cap, playing 'boy games'. Just let kids be kids and figure out who they are in their own time and own way instead of jumping to slap a label on them. I would wear my brothers clothes to school in high school. I got girly when I went off to college

My middle child insisted he was "John the Dog" for a good three months when he was four.
Contrary to predictions, he did not have surgery to get a tail or floppy ears. (Insert hard eye roll)
