The game tonight was so shocking. I’m obsessively refreshing Twitter trying to get an update on that poor kid. I can't find a medical update, but I did want to say that this was a very bright, good guy from what I've seen. Graduated from the University of Pittsburgh (my dad's alma mater). He has had a toy's for tots charity that he runs and after his injury last night, a bunch of players started pouring money into it in his honor. Last I heard, it was up to $3 Million. Below is an earlier interview with him talking about the charity:

... apparently it's over $4 million now. Wow.
What happened to him was so awful. Incredibly scary.

Past seven million now. I can see it going to ten. My son is a huge Bills fan (me too!) and we were texting each other during the game while watching. I missed the play and him falling but as soon as I saw the players dropping to their knees and praying I knew something bad had happened. The way the players gathered around him to block out the cameras was touching. This reminded me of watching NHL goalie Clint Malarchuck get his throat cut by a skate. I’m not sure if he was with the Sabers then. But that was very traumatic to see. These guys are going have some PTSD from this. I’ve heard he has improved a little so that’s hopeful. #GoBills

I just saw that he’s awake and holding hands with his family. I haven’t seen a lot of football lately but I’ve been following this story.

He was taken off the vent last night and facetimed into a team meeting this morning.

Greys, i love that KC is beating The Raiders. Jimmy is all “They’re going to kill them, why are we even watching this?” Because I want to and you can go into the MF room and watch your stupid gun smoke.

Did you see me in the stands? Allegiant Stadium is so nice. I'm irritated the Faders have such a great place.

Gotta congratulate the Detroit Lions here. Didn't make the playoffs, but came damn close. Beat the Packers yesterday knowing they weren't going to make the playoffs. Good work, guys. The entire city of Detroit is talking about this today and we have some real pride in this team for the first time in a long time.

Yeah, Miami lost yesterday to the Bills but I’m glad that it wasn’t the blow out everyone thought it would be. We should have won, we had too many dropped passes (Waddle) and Ybompson should have run for a first down in the beginning. I thought we might do a Jacksonville but at least we came back. Greys, My friend who is a KC fan and hates the Dulphins, as she calls them, was rooting for us so it was cool texting back and forth will her actually rooting for Miami. I know she had ulterior motives but it was still cool.

Omg you guys. This is somewhat football related, so I'll put it here.
My husband is a huge Jaguars fan, big football fan in general and he has been beyond excited that the Jags made it this far. He flew up to last week's game (and that plane ticket was not cheap) and juggled a lot of plans to go to Saturday's game, got 2 free tickets from his brother who works for the Jags. I dgaf about football and usually I'd balk about being left on solo parenting for 2 weekends in a row, but I knew this was a big deal for him, and how much he was looking forward to the game. So he invited his college buddy R, also a Jags fan, to fly from Oregon to go with him.
So he drove up 5+ hours to Jacksonville, they tail-gated with a third friend, and R ended up drinking waaaaaay too much and passing out before the game even started. Throwing up, fully unconscious, fall-down drunk. They could not get him upright. So Mr. B and the 3rd friend missed the entire game getting this dude back to the hotel and making sure he didn't die. They never even made it inside the stadium, had to watch it on TV in the hotel. Mr. B was SO furious. Furious and heartbroken, like in tears, he loves the stupid Jags. At least they won. But he missed it!
To add insult to injury, he had to drive this guy to the airport in the morning, AND help him shop for clothes (dirty/vomit-stained) and glasses (he lost them.)

I’d be FURIOUS and it would be a long time Before I could talk to him. You non-football/sports posters Probably can’t understand my feelings but to miss such a great game because your adult friend can’t handle his alcohol is almost unforgivable.

Yeah. It will probably change their friendship for sure. We're 45/6 years old. He's known this guy since we were 18, they are pretty close in spite of R being super neurotic and fragile, but still their personalities clicked as friends, they understand each other and are both big football fans. R obviously has an alcohol problem in addition to his other mental health issues.
It sucked to see Mr. B this way, because he was not only furious, he knows he can't be overtly mad at him because this guy is probably a suicide risk, tbh. R knows he fucked up. I don't understand how you could do that to your close friend, knowing how much it meant to him. Mr. B is a saint here, as far as I'm concerned.
