Well, he died with his boots on.
I know a lot of people like this.
I know someone whose daughter was married to one of these dumbass wannabe bikers who basically turned into one after watching and becoming a huge fan of Sons of Anarchy. Of course he had to have an expensive ass bike they could not afford, they joined a motorcycle club where there were expensive ass dues. And they spent all their free time there while foisting the kids off on family members (for free).
In the span of a few years he went from a clean, hard working father with money in the bank and saving up for the future/retirement to a jobless, broke-ass meth-head arrested multiple times for mostly stupid shit, lost custody of his kids, and went to jail for beating the shit out of her. Anyway, they're divorced now.
But she's still got the tats and the habits/addictions from this time that have made life an uphill battle for her ever since.
He was one of those 'Helmets suck' dudes.

This is what I don't understand - there's always loads of biker events and weekends that you can go to that are relaxed and loads of fun so why toss your money and life away on trying to emulate some tv series about 'outlaw' gangs? I used to go up and down the country to different rallies and have an absolute blast and the people you'd meet were everyone from your average guy/girl working in a factory to doctors and solicitors and police. A lot were also family friendly so it wasn't unusual to see someone turn up on their bike with one of the older kids on the back followed by their partner on their own bike with the smaller ones in a sidecar. I've sat and chatted to Muslim guys wearing traditional robes, Sikh guys (who are exempt from wearing a helmet if they wear a turban), guys who have arrived on specially adapted trikes that can take a wheelchair... You'll often find every kind of person at a normal bike rally so why buy into the bullshit?

I guess that's the difference between people who genuinely enjoy bikes/biking (which includes people from all walks of life) and idiot posers.

Tell me you haven't understood the message of the series without telling me you haven't understood the message of the series ... (like idiot dudebros quoting Taylor Durden from Fight Club ... bro, the movie is criticising you...)

Of course they were immensely foolish and picked a silly hill to sort of literally die on, but I don't see this as some sort of karmic retribution. They didn't fight against speed limits or drunk driving laws that would create dangerous conditions for others. I do see that fatalities increased after the laws were repealed, but those people were responsible for their own choices. They didn't take away anyone else's right to wear a helmet. They were human beings who leave beind family and friends to grieve. That is sad. I do tend to agree, but I also think of the people they were in a crash with (depending on how you crash, other people may be involved) I don’t know about the US, but in France if someone dies in a crash you can be charged with manslaughter. Which is not the case if they’re “just” injured. So actually not wearing a helmet at least in France would impact somebody else. Yeah isn't there "felony murder" that if you are committing a crime and someone else kills someone you still get charged with murder - like the police killing someone in a chase after you've done something? Not sure if it applied to traffic things like a broken tail-light etc but that could be a really low bar.

When I was like 20, I had a co-worker and I used to see her boyfriend stop by at lunch sometimes and looking out the window, he looked good when he parked his motorcycle, took off his helmet and shook out his hair. I only spoke to him to say hi and bye, didn't know him but he seemed very nice.
So one day she tells me he was in a bad accident on his motorcycle and was in the hospital and she wanted me to go with her to visit him at lunch time. Not really thinking it through I said, "Sure." That was dumb. I don't think I'd appreciate a complete stranger coming to visit me at my worst in a hospital bed, but we went. I thought I'd see a guy badly banged up in bed but talking, I've had a friend in a car accident before so we'd go visit and cheer her up and talk. But when we got there, the guy didn't even know what was going on. She was spoon feeding him and kept telling him, "You've been in an accident, Michael", and the guy looked completely bewildered and lost, staring back at her with his eyes wide open. And here I am, a coworker of hers just sitting there and I'm thinking this guy must be mortified I'm even witnessing him like this, he only knows me from hi and bye.
As soon as we walked out, the anxiety got to me and tears just started pouring out of me. I had no idea how fucked up he got and she apologized to me saying she should've told me it would it be like that and I'm thinking fuck me, think how HE feels. ugh, it was horrible. I think he had lots of rehab and did recover but I had left that job before I really learned if he ever fully recovered and my coworker and I did not see each other after I left there.
I have ridden on the back of a motorcycle before and it was really fun but as someone who drives a car, there have been a few times when I didn't even realize a motorcycle was behind me because they tend to stay behind me on the left side and when I don't see a full-sized car behind me, I assume no one's behind me, and then I'd be like oh shit, there IS someone behind me. So I can see how easy it would be for motorcycles to not get noticed as much cars do and get hurt because of it.

I had a coworker named Ken, who was a motorcycle enthusiast. He had the long, wavy hair, and the Jeff Spicoli breeze attitude. Around the time he left the company (like 2008, I think), he and his wife were at some kind of motorcycle rally. His wife and another motorcyclist were coming from opposite directions and basically sideswiped each other. She took the other guy's leg off, and I forgot what happened to her - not as serious the other person.
