Congratulations! I've never liked her, and now I can't remember why. No doubt something stupid and vaguely misogynistic. (SMDH) I've never quite liked her because her face is super horsey-looking for me. Nobody said it had to be a *valid* reason. I don't like her because she dragged Chad Lowe after the divorce. It was unfair to him for her to do that in an interview.

Congratulations to her. I have a tiny bit of irrational hate for her, but her new show looks good.
First thing I thought was IVF, and her comment about twins in the family cemented it. However she conceived, just hope that they are healthy. I can't imagine having one baby at 48, let alone 2!

I just can't imagine having kids in my 40's - maybe that just is a signal of the current state of my health or something because I barely have energy for my 3 year old at 37.
Plus since we had two failed embryo transfers last year and it kind of cemented for us that we are one and done I've been making plans for my 50's so these stories of women in their 50's having kids is pretty scary, LOL
I've always liked her so congrats to her, for some reason I thought she already had a gaggle of kids?

The age/energy argument doesn't hold for celebrities, they aren't up all night with a baby--never mind two--and still worrying about having to hold up a 9-5 job or run a household themselves. It's a whole lot easier when you can hire the help you need.

^^^ that. but there's something to be said for experience, security and emotional maturity that comes with age and how that can make you a better parent as well. you might not be running after your toddler but you're less worried about proving yourself at work, you have more financial security than you did in your 20s (and are more likely to be able to afford some help around the house, even if not to the level of a celebrity), more life experience overall and you don't sweat the small stuff as much. my parents had me and 3 of my siblings young, my youngest brother was an oops baby years later and they were completely different parents with him. if i'm being honest they were probably better parents to him. they were actually more involved, more patient, more sure of themselves, better communicators, etc. i never wanted kids but if i had to have one, i would be a much better parent now than i would have been in my 20s or even my 30s.

I had some great aunt who had twins at the age of 50 - at a time when there was no fertility treatments available. Her husband committed suicide shortly after. I don't know the details other than that because it was my mom who told the story and everyone from that generation is gone. Adrienne Barbeau had twins at the age of 51, but had gone through all kind of fertility attempts to do it. i mean... can you blame him? Having twins at any age is a huge stressor on a marriage. But to be someone living like 70+ years ago and in your 50's thinking you are in the clear only to have that sprung on you? I can't imagine what that would feel like.

Am I the only one feeling sad for the poor women who are left behind to salvage what they can from twins... while they're middle-aged?

That's a good question. We had ours when we were close to 40. But it never felt like we were old because we were workout fiends. We were able to participate in all their athletic stuff every step of the way. And like Sputnik mentioned, we were calmer, more affluent, and more appreciative of the experience than we would have been in our twenties. And now we are empty nesters again. (Except for certain weekends.)

Part genetics, part taking fucking care of yourself.
Doing all those boring things things like eating right, getting regular sleep, exercise and avoiding any (or excessive) indulgence in things that are going to rapidly age the shit out of you or otherwise lead to early onset of medical diagnoses (and the need for medications to control them) which also age the shit out of you and reduce your quality of life.

And yet Angie Jolie is a "She Devil" Which makes me want to ask since when were devils gendered? Anyway, please for Hilary & hubby if this is what they want, which apparently they do.
