My Gran had more than one pair of shoes like that & they’re both comfortable & safe. “Sneakers” can stick to floors & cause a trip hazard.
She might wear them out of the spotlight as she wears wellies & hiking boots but I doubt it with the palace floors.

The Duchess of Cambridge was delighted to be reunited with an old friend as she and her husband, Prince William, stood in for the Queen at today’s Buckingham Palace garden party. Kate made a beeline for Holocaust survivor Manfred Goldberg, 92, whom she has met twice previously, most recently talking to him over video call last year to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. Mr Goldberg, who was with his wife of 61 years, Shary, was a German-born Jew sent to the ghetto, forced labour camps and eventually Stutthof concentration camp near Gdansk in Poland by the Nazis when he was just 14. His younger brother, Herman, was murdered there. www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-10853911/Kate-Middleton-radiant-mint-green-custom-gown-Buckingham-Palace-garden-party.html

My grandmother's PT put her in Sketchers when she had fall concerns, nearly all of them are non slip. And being that she wore a little girl's size 1 (US), they were totally adorable- her favorite pair lit up.

Will and Kate are so boring.
But I guess they’re supposed to be.

Aww I beginning to grow fond of Kate & Wills. They are keeping with tradition and learning the role of being senior working royals. Kudos to them.

I think Will looks nice, I don't hate Kate's dress but it's quite stuffy for a garden party IMO and it's substantially better than Bea's. I like her hat.

They all look stuffy and boring, but it's the royal uniform. I don't see royal styles changing much in the future under Charles, he's always been very formal and was middle aged when he was 20. By the time Wills and Kate's turn comes they will be well into middle age anyway.

Military veterans tonight claimed that Prince William's horse looked 'drugged' during today's rehearsal for the Queen's annual birthday parade, Trooping the Colour. The Duke of Cambridge, 39, rode a black Household Division charger, named George, as he went through the practice inspection - known as the Colonel's Review - in central London. One unnamed source told MailOnline: 'William's horse looks drugged. Its head is on the floor. It's a disgrace.' For the event, William wore his red and blue military uniform adorned with medals, which he teamed with the traditional bearskin hat as he sat on the charger, also festooned in ceremonial regalia. Horses of the Household Cavalry which feature in such parades undergo special training so that they are desensitised to noise and traffic. They also need to be comfortable standing still for long periods and become accustomed to the weight of extra kit. The Queen's birthday on June 2 sees her Household Division troops march and ride on Horse Guards Parade with Her Majesty usually attending and taking the salute. But this year, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and the Princess Royal will ride on the parade as colonels of the Welsh Guards, the Irish Guards and the Blues and Royals. Only William was seen at the run-through today, which went without a hitch - unlike last week. IRISH guards regimental mascot Turlough Mor - also known as Seamus. The canine is one of the biggest dog breeds in the world
