If Mr. Toast EVER questioned my tip and/or took some of it back my wrath would be swift and complete. I cannot even imagine being managed in such a way. No wonder Ben always looks so miserable.

I've told my own father off for bad tipping before now & put my own tip down.

I'm a great tipper. Got a $25 bill at a restaurant last week and tipped $10. It helps our fellow persons out tremendously.

I actually have heard that too. But I also read somewhere of an incident where he tipped fat like he typically does somewhere in Vegas and that she actually went back and took part of it back, after berating him for tipping extravagantly. Not sure if it's true, of course but it absolutely sounds like a something her trifling self would do, doesn't it? I'll dig around later and see if I can find it. I feel like I've seen reference to it more than once. Absolutely true. I work where it happened. And it probably happened in other places too. She took his tip away and replaced it with $5 "No Ben, no! If you tip them like that then you'll only be encouraging them to think they are real people!" Absolutely true. I work where it happened. And it probably happened in other places too. She took his tip away and replaced it with $5 What a cunt! Tipping is SO important. I'm a Brit & even I understand that!!!! Yeah, we don't order in very often but when we do I always makes sure that I have something to tip the delivery driver.

I've told my own father off for bad tipping before now & put my own tip down. Gawd, I used to do the same when I went out with my mom and my sister. They were awful. I'd linger behind, and throw more money on the table. Once, my mom said to me, "that's why you'll never be rich" and I said "Why? Because I refuse to stiff the waitress??" My mom learned all these bad habits from her man, who was quite wealthy but had his own weird tipping rules (if it was a buffet, only tip $2 per person because you had to get up and get your own food) and my sister learned it from my mom. She knows better now though, Because I MAKE her leave 20% whether she likes it or not. I told her if you can't afford to leave a proper tip, you shouldn't be going out to eat, and I sure as hell won't take you. I can't stand cheap people, especially those who have the money but look down on people in the service industry. They should all be forced to wait tables for a week and see how they like it.

This - and I pounded it into my kid's heads too. DO NOT under-value the service people all around you: If they weren't there the world would cease to function.

I consider myself a decent tipper, because I get the situation service providers are in... but this is what I don't understand about restaurants. Why is the pay so low for their staff? Why are they dependent on tips? Somehow I feel that the customers are responsible for something that the business should be responsible for -- paying their staff a decent wage.
Mr. Tulip was a bit of a stickler on the 15% guideline, but after many years of marriage I got him to loosen up a bit. It drove me nuts.

If restaurants paid better we'd pay for in the food pricing anyway.
My friend owns a restaurant and regardless of their hourly wage, they must make minimum wage. So if tips are slow and that, combined with their hourly pay, doesn't equal minimum wage for that shift, the restaurant has to kick in the extra pay.
Servers might do better with a higher hourly wage but I think more often than not they do better under this system. A good night in a good restaurant can net a server way more than making minimum wage or even an hourly rate that is somewhat higher. Based on the skillset required, an hourly wage for a server is not likely to ever be much higher than minimum wage so tips will always be important.

They should all be forced to wait tables for a week and see how they like it. They should be forced to wait tables for a MONTH and live on that money. It might give them more empathy for the folks who work on their feet all day and count every penny.

I'm very much a way over tipper and R always asks me how much he should leave... I basically grew up in the service business. My whole family worked the 2 beach clubs & restaurants my father's family owned. On my mom's side, my grandmother waitressed until she was 80. She only quit because they went to POS and it intimidated her. I waitressed my way through HS and college. I say I need to go back to it. A good weekend back in 1995, I brought home the same money I make in 5 days in 2023. I was one "rich" 18-year-old. LMAO
We went out to breakfast yesterday, bill was $21.02 and we left an $11 tip. I do 50% for excellent service but no less than 20% for bad service cause more often than not, bad service isn't your server, it's your kitchen.
We're also not pain in the ass people. I ask you for what I'll need in addition to my food when you take my order, I say please and thank you, and never ever send anything back cause yeah.

I have only ever sent something back once - at a high end restaurant where iwas a regular (long time ago when I had £££). I had a rare steak & it was cold. Not tepid but cold-cold. I think they may have microwaved it (j/k sort of) but I never went back either. Well to be fair the whole dinner was cold not just the steak. It was like it was someone else's or something.

Vow renewal? The divorce is incoming then! Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck want to renew their vows this summer with a 'big celebration' at their new $60 million mansion - just one year after tying the knot in Las Vegas.According to a source close to the pair, the couple - who first eloped in Las Vegas last July and then held an intimate wedding ceremony at Ben's Georgia home one month later - are more in love than ever as they near their one-year anniversary To commemorate being 'in such a great place romantically and emotionally' and to show that 'they are not taking this second chance for granted,' the insider revealed exclusively to DailyMail.com that couple want to renew their vows in the upcoming months - accompanied by a lavish party inside their newly purchased LA abode. ' Jen and Ben are as much in love as they ever have been and this last year of marriage has been in a word, spectacular,' dished the source. All their kids are doing great, the families are all in sync. And to celebrate all that, as they get closer to their first wedding anniversary, they both want to renew their vows and show how much in love they are with each other. They are not taking this second chance for granted.' The source added that their strong bond has even contributed to their booming 'professional lives.' 'They both are in such a great place romantically and emotionally with each other that it is spilling over to their professional lives as they both think they are doing some of the best work that they have ever done,' they continued. 'That is because they have each other's backs and they fully support each other in everything that they do, which makes such a limited amount of stress for them to deal with.' According to the friend of the pair, they are eyeing 'the end of July' or 'early August' for the event, which will be held in their new home - a 46,000-square-foot mansion that boasts 12 bedrooms and 24 bathrooms, and sits on five acres of land. The source added that they 'intend to celebrate their love at all times, whether people like it or not' because they finally have the 'relationship they have always wanted.' DailyMail.com has reached out to Jennifer and Ben's representatives for comment. www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-12235947/Jennifer-Lopez-Ben-Affleck-set-renew-vows-SUMMER-one-year-wedding.html#article-12235947

My mother used to enjoy tipping a penny for poor service. Frankly, that's just petty and childish. I once handed back the "keep the change tip" of 35 cents. There were, imo, zero issues with food or service for that table of 3. Even the manager was like WTF? Maybe their math didn't math the way the thought it did, but if you can't or won't tip appropriately don't eat out.

Damn it, every time this thread is updated I expect to read a divorce announcement, and every time I am disappointed. However, vow renewal after 1 year does not bode well, so there is hope. 😎
