I work front desk at a private medical practice and two weeks ago, we must have had 8 employees at home with covid. Now it's the COO at home sick. And they've all been vaccinated.

Did everyone (in the US) order their home tests? I did last week, 4 for our household and 4 for my sister's. It was easy peasy on the USPS website and they're free so why not. Not sure when we'll be getting them, but I figure they'll come in handy in case any of us come down with symptoms. So far we've escaped it too but we are all vaxxed and boosted. It's the middle of winter here, way cold and snow so I'm not going out to speak of, other than the hospital with my sister (and I try to spend minimum time there, just dropping her off and picking her up basically. They aren't letting people in the rooms other than the patients so I see no reason to sit in the waiting room), curbside grocery, liquor store runs, that's my life right now. Hoping once the better weather hits, the wave will have subsided, like last year. I would like to go to a restaurant with friends and not be paranoid.

Yep, I ordered mine and they should arrive today (a week from placing the order, I think). We have a few onhand I managed to snatch at the pharmacy last month but I figured a few extra can't hurt. We don't use them often but I do feel better having them available.

I ordered the test kits through USPS and then I got nervous and bought more through CVS, Walgreens and Amazon.
My husband tested positive on a home test Monday, we all went in for PCR tests Tuesday, negative results all around this morning!

My coworker checked in today. She did have complications. She apparently was in the hospital for 4 days with breathing difficulties.

Waiting for a bus today and the woman waiting alongside me was telling me how she won't have the vaccine "because it isn't natural". Neither was the several pieces of surgical steel sticking out of her lip or the obviously home-made tattoo of some fella's name on the back of her hand.
I made sure to sit well away from her.

I'm fully vaccinated and boosted, but still. I work at a school and have really close contact to 70 children. My coworker is quite sick right now, I'm wearing a mask all day, so far I've managed to avoid getting sick. By now I've accepted that I'll get it sooner or later, but hubby has MS and is struggling anyway, if he's infected, he'll probably end up in a wheelchair. That gives going to work an element of walking into a war-zone. Last monday I sat on a table with 4 kidsfor an hour, we were playing Monopoly. On tuesday three of them tested positive. I'm still standing.
Edit: I have unlimited access to tests from work, so I can test myself daily. That's quite a luxery.

Here's where I think the booster made a huge difference. My personal observations with Omicron:
Anyone I know who was vaccinated and got it hadn't yet had a chance to get boosted. Of the hospitalized, it's still more non-vaccinated than vaccinated. And of the vaccinated the majority hadn't been boosted and were/are 7-8+ months away from their last vaccine shot.
I've had a few minor-moderate exposures in the last couple months to people who tested positive but I have not had it yet, that I know of (no symptoms). I had my Moderna booster 11/11/21. I wear a KN95 at work underneath my surgical, wash and sanitize my hands frequently, wipe down my work space and avoid touching my eyes/nose/mouth with my hands. Then change out of clothes and immediately shower coming home.
Neither Dark Jr or I have had it. That we know of. He got the booster the week before thanksgiving since he knew he'd be going to his dad's for dinner. We wipe down all surfaces at home where we put our hands regularly (door knobs, handles, etc) with bleach wipes.
We could just be lucky. My weekday job is not as hands on so I don't get the same level of exposure, but I am in a place where there's lots of it. And sometimes a person I was around will later test positive. I started (back) wearing a KN95 underneath my surgical when Omicron came around because it's so much more contagious and many of my coworkers were getting it. But again, all these were people who never had a booster and were 8+ months from their last vaccine shot. I have not went back to using instacart like I did last year. I've been going to the grocery store. Two masks, and wipe my hands down once back to the car. I'm ready for another lull because I remember the last time the numbers were low I actually went out a few times without masks. Even went to a few get togethers unmasked comfortably because almost everyone present was also vaccinated. This was before Omicron.
For the vaccinated, Omicron is not as serious. But for the unvaccinated, it is. People unvaccinated who do end up in the hospital with this are sicker and of the ones who end up in intensive care, less are surviving. About 50-60% of the patients I'm assisting with post-discharge services have Covid.

When Bloke got it and then gave it to me (after our first afternoon out in a pub Lawdbaby knows how long) we felt rough but it was nothing compared to when we both had the full-blown, unvaxxed version. There is absolutely a difference in severity between vaccinated and unvaccinated.

Nobody in my immediate family has gotten it. All of us are triple vaxxed. I go to work about 4 times a week (wearing a mask when I'm not in my office). Go grocery shopping at least three times a week (with a mask). Go to the gym 5 times a week (with a mask). Volunteer at a food bank once a week and interact with a bunch of strangers (while wearing a mask). Because of precautions, I'm not worried about getting it. Less and less worried as Omicron starts to fade.

I’m kind of resigned to the idea that I’ll end up getting it. I’m also going to restaurants, I see friends unmasked, I travel. I’m in New Orleans right now for the weekend. I wear masks wherever mandated and am triple vaxxed and will get all the boosters necessary but I’m at the point where I’m not willing to live a muted life for much longer. I’m actually surprised I haven’t gotten it yet (that I know of, and I’m not about to pay 1100$ for an antibody test for vaccinated people which I doubt my insurance will want to cover). The unvaxxed aren’t going to get vaxxed in the US, as infuriating as that is, and it will be years before developing countries are vaxxed enough to stop new variants from emerging, so I’ve kind of decided to just accept that for my own sanity.

one girl in ET's close friend group tested positive via home test. all the other girls (including ET) tested neg via home test. i will test ET again today. and all 3 of us will get PCRs this AM. i know the kids are pretty careful but still. they go to school and i only go to the gym (an open warehouse) and to the market (masked). i am stunned we haven't gotten it yet.

It's running rampant through my daughters school. Her classroom in particular, which probably explains why she got it. I was a little surprised because she's newly, fully vaccinated. So, in theory, she should be at some of the highest levels of protection. Thankfully it seems to have been a mild case. We did a rapid yesterday and she's still showing as positive, one full week after developing symptoms. Her doctor said that if she tests negative at this point, she needs to stay home for ten days. Her school said no, that she can test tomorrow and Tuesday and come back if negative. Also, she can come back Wednesday, without a test as long as she's not symptomatic. Anyone here still test positive on a rapid test past the 5 day point?

Can the one single person I know who is not vaccinated (a vendor for work) please stop telling me that it's the vaccinated that are spreading it faster than anyone.

Chalet, I have a couple people in my life that say the same. That my daughter got covid because we're all vaccinated. I find that it somehow makes them feel better, that way they can push the blame on someone else.
