Metal Lords on Netflix. I'd recommend.

A Quiet Place II, good popcorn movie. And Mambo Italiano (2003), much funnier than I expected. Thumbs up to both.

I just watched March of the Penguins for the first time ever and DAFUQ? How was this so popular? It’s depressing AF.

We watched the new Nicolas Cage movie. It was ok, not as good as I was expecting it to be. Lily Sheen is annoying.

I never had the guts to watch March of the Penguins because someone around me must have hinted to me it was going to be depressing.

Just came back from The Northman and ... OMG, SPLENDID. I love everything about this film.
It is a bit weird, so definitely not something that will appeal to everyone, it relies heavily on pagan mysticism, which can be somewhat off putting. The costumes are PERFECTION (and visibly hand sewn!!!), even some details that I thought were WTF when I saw the trailer: I'm thinking of the old dude who wears tortoise brooches - which were exclusively worn by women. Well in the film that man practices divination, which was a female magic, therefore the brooches were a nice detail to show his gender transgression. (very very nerdy detail)
They obviously made a ton of research to get the background correct, and it shows (the verses of the Hávamál that are recited are the ones which are known to date from the 9th century ! I also loved that they used the correct runic alphabets for the period and places where the action takes place)
The actors are all great, the story is nothing new, it's Hamlet XD but it is well delivered though it sometimes verses on theatrical so then again, probably not to everybody's liking.
Also, Iceland. Perfection. Everything that is filmed in iceland deserves to be that film (thinking of you Prometheus, you were a waste of Iceland's beauty XD)

Knives out. I liked it. Loved the circle of knives in the background.

Pixie I wanted to see The Northman. I read a lukewarm review of it, but I'm glad I saw your take on it...makes me want to go see it now. shellee I really liked Knives Out. That was the last movie I saw in a theater before the pandemic, actually. I keep watching stupid crap, but the last actual movie I watched was The Take* with Idris Elba and Richard Madden. It was a dumb, shoot em up CIA thriller thing that caught my eye and it got really bad reviews, but it was better than a lot of movies with amazing reviews. IMO. *This movie is also known as "Bastille Day" but I supposed they thought Americans would be too stupid to know what that is (understandably enough) so they called it The Take here.

I saw something on Vanity Fair with the director & Alex explaining one scene from the Northman & was blown away - I made a thread specifically about it.

Pixie thank you! I was undecided about whether to watch The Northman but you've made up my mind for me.

I watched The Batman last night. It was pretty good - really long. I was concerned that they had too many "bad guys" but they dealt with them in such a way that it made sense. Robert Pattinson was good in the role as it was written which was a bit more Bruce Wayne and his brooding, but not in a Christian Bale "look at me I'm brooding" way.
Definitely have The Northman on my list!
