I'm filled with questions and honestly I'm not sure I want the answers to them.

I call BS. How the hell would that not rupture someone’s urethra, or block it to where you can’t pee?

I call BS. How the hell would that not rupture someone’s urethra, or block it to where you can’t pee? I actually read some of the medical journal article linked in the original article here. One guy said he thought it could have been inserted vaginally and 'migrated' to the bladder. There's a more official word for the migration ... but this explanation made a bit more sense to me. Still wild, but not quite so wild.

^^ I didn’t read any of the medical journal articles, but that sounds weird because wouldn’t it fall out instead of creeping from the vagina to the bladder? Or did she develop a fistula and it migrated that way? But a fistula has to be fixed, so presumably they would have mentioned that in the article? Too much to ponder.

She inserted into the urethra was how I read it.
But fuck me, that's a pretty small orifice (ordinarily). If she stuck a whole fucking juice glass up there then this def wasn't her first rodeo.

I've catheterised men and women for many years. The urethra is tiny! You cannot insert a catheter without first applying a local anaesthetic gel, or it would be very uncomfortable. I cannot believe that this really happened- not unless she's been inserting items, in increasing size over a long period of time!!!!!!! I also worked at the local GU Clinic for a fortnight but spent most of the time handing out condoms to Filipino sailors, some of whom insisted on me showing them how to apply the soddin' things! *BARF* So I'd get out my bright shiny rubber willy and get to work! Not bad for a student nurse who was still a flippin' virgin!

^ I was going to say, but didn't want to give TMI--anyway, I had a catheter for a few days after my abdominal surgery and I didn't even know it because they did it while I was under (thankfully). But I felt it when they took it out! I mean, it wasn't excruciating, just a little "ouch!" and it was done.

Yes, it is better to be under anaesthetic when it's inserted! It's not painful, it's mainly embarrassing for the patient. All nurses learn the procedure at an early stage in their careers and perform catheterisation with tender care. Thank you, also, for sharing your 'ouch' which will be something that our forum friends, who may be facing a similar procedure in the future, to feel confident about undergoing such health treatments in their own future. I hope you are now fully recovered and in good health.xx

When inserting catheters in the non-anesthetized it's ideal to be fast (but not too fast) and efficient.

Migrated from the uterus to the bladder?! What, she has a unique tunnel connecting them?

In my career I've occasionally had a patient with a damn near garden hose sized catheter! Not literally, but like...a 24 or 26fr. Usually a man.

Thank god for bladder stones I guess? I don't think I'm OK after reading that.
