Okay, I just talked to my sister for the last time before her surgery. They are coming to get her early, early, am. After the surgery begins, it will be 8-10 hours. It looks like they will allow my niece to wait in the waiting room they have for heart surgery family. The doctor will call her when the surgery is over, and then she will call all of us. Tomorrow is going to be a long day. I'm feeling pretty fragile right now - I just hate that she is alone, you know? Any prayers, good thoughts or such are more than welcome. Good luck on her surgery. Sending all my good thoughts.

Lindsaywhit, I'll be praying for your sister, your niece, you and the doctors. I know you're going to worry, so I won't tell you not to, but try to stay centered and keep your mind occupied. All my best to all of you.

Thx, Chalet. Our son wants to be a software engineer. I wonder if he will stick with that, though. I think our daughter wants to work for an animation studio. Wherever our son goes, I hope it's not too far from our daughter. She adores him and would be really, really hurt if he were in some far off place from where she goes to school. Hmm... might that place be San Francisco-y, Silicon Vally, Pixar-y kinda locations? A Rave - Mo, do you remember Linda Purl? If so I'll post why. Thanks, Mostroop, I will do that. xox We're missing our always loved group hug icon. rant. waiting for an email from a friend who's going to see the doctor about a possible detached retina wishing for the best

Rave - Just after Christmas I bought a vintage Betty Crocker cookbook (1959) through Amazon. It was picked up by FedEx and then never put in the tracking system. For over three weeks there has been no information. I was sure that the book had been misplaced and I was very disappointed. Just as I started looking around for another copy, it appeared in the system and is finally on the move. Yay! I have 2 of them, one was my mom's and the other a wedding gift in the 80s. I also received a Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. Haven't looked at them in ages but I did use them at one point. Now if I want to see how to make something, I just google. Looks like a missed a bunch of posts, so good luck to you bee, and dawn, and lindsay will be sending good thoughts to you and your sister.

Thanks, Trixie. Well, she's out of surgery, and my niece texted this to the family:
"She's stitched back up and in recovery. Things went a little differently than expected and there was some stress/complications on her so they are going to move more slowly waking her up. She's stable and they're going to wake her up enough tonight to make sure she's responsive etc. and then move her to ICU tonight and start the full wakeup process in the morning but they're going to do it very slowly. She may not be fully awake and lucid tomorrow but should be back on her phone by Saturday."
I have to admit I'm having a hard time staying calm. My niece didn't pick up when I called, so can anyone here translate this for me?

Maybe they don't want to stress her body by waking her too quickly? Our body does a lot of healing while we sleep. I'm sending good thoughts and prayers your way

I can imagine how you're feeling because I would be freaking out wanting answers, and I imagine you've already been majorly stressed all day.
I don't know exactly what it means, but I would hold onto to the "She's stable". She made it through a surgery for a condition nobody ever saw on a living person, and she's stable. IMO, that's something to hold onto when you don't have the answers you need.
Like mostroop said, we do a lot of healing when we sleep.

I’m so sorry Lindsay, I understand though. My brother had surgery last Friday to remove a cyst on his spine because it was going to paralyze him and he has only one leg to begin with. Well by Tuesday he was on a ventilator with double pneumonia and copd and in critical condition. Couldn’t get through to his nurse since then until this afternoon. He’s off the ventilator but has blood clots I. His lungs but “doing much better”. They can’t feed him because the food might go to his lungs. He’s very agitated according to the nurse that I spoke with so he threatened him with calling shellee,me, to beat his ass if he didn’t act better. I still don’t know if he’s going to make it or what the fuck is going on! I hate Jackson memorial!

oh shellee, I'm so sorry. Seems like a few of us are going through major stress with loved ones illnesses lately. I'm hoping for the best for your brother, and you.
eta: Lindsay, I agree with others, what you heard from your niece isn't necessarily bad news. It is hopeful news. Your sister just went through a LOT and most likely needs the rest. I'm relatively sure this is just to help in the healing process. Hang in there.

It's just horrible not knowing what is going on, especially when they are in critical condition. Were they able to remove the cyst? Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. How is your sister doing, Trixie?

I don't know anybody that imagines good things when someone they love is in the hospital and nobody will tell you what's going on.
